Dale Hill Hotel and Golf Club, Ticehurst, East Sussex

Top 10 Golf Courses

Golfers visiting this corner of Kent and Sussex are really spoilt for choice - with over 40 courses of all shapes, sizes and suitable for all abilities. Some have amazing views, some are pro-designed courses, some have unusual and particularly challenging holes, providing even the most experienced golfer with a good test of skill. All have first class facilities – some combining spa and other sporting facilities, so your other half is well-catered for too.

We’ve consulted a keen golfer for tips on where some of the best places to play golf in Kent and Sussex are to be found. Here are Kevin’s 10 favourite places to indulge in a round or two – in no particular order!

Dale Hill Hotel & Golf Course, Ticehurst, East Sussex
This 18-hole course designed by Ian Woosnam stretches over miles of rolling Sussex countryside. Surrounded by some great places to visit, the Hotel provides the perfect place for the whole family to relax and unwind, whilst you enjoy a peaceful round on the course.

London Beach Hotel & Golf Club, Tenterden, Kent
The spa facilities and the Hotel’s close location to the attractions of the pretty Wealden town of Tenterden mean that whilst you are enjoying a round on this 18-hole course, your other half can fit in some me-time too, some retail therapy – or even some wine tasting!

Sussex Golf Club at the Ashdown Park Hotel & Country Club, Ashdown Forest, East Sussex
The stunning location of this golf course is almost as stunning as the Hotel itself, with far reaching views across the surrounding Ashdown Forest. Return after a challenging day on the course to the award winning restaurant, a cosy afternoon tea by the fire, or a massage in the spa.

The London Golf Club, Brand’s Hatch, Kent
One of the country’s premier golf courses, the London Golf Club attracts golfers from far and wide to enjoy this first class course host to the 2008 and 2009 Open Championships.

Crowborough Beacon Golf Club, Crowborough, East Sussex
With some interesting and unusual holes, Crowborough Beacon provides a real test even for the most experienced golfer, and with some lovely views of the surrounding Sussex Weald too.

Hever Castle Golf Club, Hever, Kent
The Championship 18-hole Course is complemented  by the Princes 9-hole Course set in 250 acres of truly beautiful Kent Weald Countryside. The Hever Castle Estate reveals a rich and fascinating past dating back to the 13th century and Anne Boleyn in the 1500s, to the 1920s when Lord Astor built a private 9-hole links course where today’s Championship Course lies north of the Hever lakes.

The Royal Ashdown Forest Golf Club, Ashdown Forest, East Sussex
Known for its spectacular scenery high on Ashdown Forest, as well as for its challenging, bunker-less course, the Royal Ashdown provides one of the South of England’s ultimate golfing experiences.

Lullingstone Park Golf Club, Lullingstone, Kent
This pay and play course is ideal for the casual golfer who just wants a quick round, or for the beginner or more experienced golfer keen to practise and improve his/her game.

Nevill Golf Club, Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent
The Nevill has many memorable holes, especially the 10th and 11th - back-to-back par fives, which will challenge even the most skilled golfer.

Leeds Castle Golf Club, Leeds, near Maidstone, Kent
The real Garden of England experience – a round of golf with views of one of the area’s most iconic and beautiful visitor attractions, Leeds Castle.
